The Pope sends condolences for the victims of the volcano in Guatemala

Pope Francis expressed his regret for the victims of the eruption of the volcano of Fuego in Guatemala in a telegram sent to the apostolic nuncio in Guatemala, Nicolas Thevenin, who made public the press office of the Vatican.

In the telegram, signed by the Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, it is said that the Pope is “deeply sorry to know the sad news of the violent eruption of the volcano” in Guatemala, which has caused dozens of deaths so far, hundreds of disappeared and millions of affected.

Francisco “offers suffrages for the eternal rest of the deceased and prayers for all who suffer the consequences of that natural disaster,” the message adds.

And he asks that “the condolences of His Holiness, along with expressions of consolation, be transmitted to the relatives who mourn the loss of their loved ones.”

As well as, “spiritual closeness to the wounded and to those who work tirelessly in helping the victims” and calls for “the Lord to pour out on all of them the gifts of solidarity, spiritual serenity and Christian hope”.
