Taiwan donates $ 100,000 to Guatemala to help the victims

The Government of Taiwan has promised to send support to Guatemala and has donated $ 100,000 to help those affected by the eruption of the Volcano of Fire, the spokesman of the island’s diplomacy, Andrew Lee, told a news conference today.

Immediately after it was known on Sunday that the Volcano of Fire had erupted, the Taiwanese President, Tsai Ing-wen, sent a tweet in Spanish promising help.

The donation was made immediately after the eruption and both Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales and Foreign Minister Sandra Jovel thanked Taiwan for its interest, the spokesman said.

At least 75 people have died, 192 have disappeared and thousands have been displaced by the eruptions of the Volcán de Fuego, located in the limits of the central department of Sacatepéquez in Guatemala, where three days of national mourning and the state of emergency were declared.

Guatemala is one of the 18 diplomatic allies of Taiwan and the island has an important bilateral cooperation with this country
